Walleye club fish structures... anybody know which coves?

Saw this on the news: Volunteers construct hundreds of fish structures for Greers Ferry Lake. The Walleye Club crew built a few hundred of them one Saturday morning, working with Game & Fish and the Corps, and they're supposed to go in as shelter and spawning cover.

What the story doesn't say is where. Nothing about coves, nothing about depth... I get that they may not want every boat in the county parked on top of them, but those of us who fish out of the Bay would like to know if any are going in on our side of the lake or over toward the Devil's Fork.

Back when I first moved up here folks just sank old Christmas trees and cedar brush and called it good. This sounds a lot more organized. Anybody in the club or at the marina hear anything? Or is it one of those things we find out when somebody's sonar lights up...

I haven't heard a word about where they're going, Cedric, and I'd have thought the marina crowd would know by now. I'd bet it comes out eventually. I seem to remember Game & Fish posting GPS spots for their fish attractors on their website once they're set, so keep an eye there. It might take a few weeks though.

You're right about the old days. My late husband hauled cedar tops down to the water every fall, and we thought we were doing the lake a big favor. Never knew if the fish cared one way or the other. Hundreds of purpose-built structures sounds like a real step up, and having the Corps in on it means somebody's keeping track.

I wouldn't hold it against the club for keeping quiet at first. Give a spot a month and it gets fished to death. Still, I'd like to know if any are off the Bay side.

And if somebody does find the walleye, I'll happily trade a few fillets for a taste of what you catch. Walleye takes a light smoke better than people think.
